Educational Excellence

Horizontal LineWelcome!

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Governor’s Task Force on Educational Excellence website. Inside, you will find links to submit testimony to the members of the Task Force, background on the Task Force’s charge and its members, links to information about Task Force meetings, and more. I am excited about the opportunities to hear from the people of Wisconsin via the Internet, and I hope you find the contents of this site useful.

Wisconsin has a long, proud tradition of supporting public education. We know that a high-quality public education system is an essential public good and the pathway to opportunity in a challenging and complex world. We understand our obligation to the next generation, and we know that the health of our democracy depends on well-educated citizens.

In this spirit, it is our duty as citizens of this state to ensure that every Wisconsin child has an equal opportunity to learn. On August 22, 2003, I signed Executive Order 22, which created the Governor’s Task Force on Educational Excellence. This Task Force will study and make recommendations to me on several key areas in our educational delivery system: school finance, special education, teacher recruitment and retention, student achievement, and early childhood education.

The Task Force is comprised of 29 members, including parents, teachers, community leaders, school administrators, school board members, business leaders, and organized labor representatives. The Task Force members come from urban, rural, and suburban districts, richer districts and poorer districts alike. Most importantly, this is a group of committed citizens and taxpayers who have offered to serve our children and our state by making our schools the best that they can be.

Thank you for taking the time to visit this site. I look forward to hearing from you as the Task Force continues its work.

Sincerely,

Jim Doyle
Governor
